Homebound Assistance
"Mellisa has made my live so much easier and less stressful since she has been helping with some weekly in-home services for my husband who has suffered strokes. I work outside the home and just don't have the time that is needed daily to work with him on a daily basis so he can get back to a much more enjoyable life and give him more independence. Mellisa has helped make that possible.
It takes a compassionate and patient person to work with others like she does. She helps with his writing and thinking skills and also goes for walks with him as it is important for him to keep moving. He is working hard but because she makes it so pleasant for him, he doesn't even realize it. Mellisa always keeps his safety as the number one priority and I feel good knowing she cares.

Event Planning/Fund Raising
"It is my pleasure to report on our experience of the volunteer work of Mellisa Rodden. Mellisa began her volunteer experience with the Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center in 2005 as a direct service volunteer, that is to say, she worked one on one with victims of rape or abuse, either answering hotline calls or being “called-out” to hospitals to provide medical advocacy in emergency rooms. In order to do this difficult, inconvenient, and life saving work, Mellisa had to take 40 hours of training which is mandated by the state of Illinois for all crisis workers.
Soon afterwards Mellisa found her nitch supporting the work of the Zacharias Center through the creation of special events. This is how I know her work. In each of the 6 years, she has worked on one or more of our major fundraisers: Women Helping Women luncheon and a Casino Night and Out of the Blues in Chicago.
In 2008, year she was the chair of the Women Helping Women luncheon which, thanks to her leadership, set a record profit of $103,000 going to support our programs & services.
The luncheon event drawing over 600 guests is a major undertaking which requires a great deal of time and effort the better portion of a year in advance. She is currently volunteering as the chair of the 2011 luncheon’s auction committee.
Mellisa’s intelligence and attention to detail, her organizational ability and ease of working with others, her dedication to the cause and willingness to give so much of her personal time, made her an ideal volunteer fundraiser. We could not have been luckier to have her come our way.
This kind of work requires real heart; obviously, there is no paycheck involved. Her strength of character and her talents allow me to recommend her highly. ~Joseph Howard
